A Smoky Haze In Ottawa

It’s been quite a hazy and smoky situation in Ottawa lately, thanks to those forest fires. Yup, Environment Canada has gone ahead and issued an air quality warning.

You step outside your house, expecting a breath of fresh air, but all you get is a strong scent of fire engulfing your senses. It’s like the whole neighborhood turned into a giant barbecue party without an invitation. Not exactly the delightful aroma you were hoping for, right?

To make matters worse, the school sent out an email announcing that the kiddos will be stuck indoors during recess until further notice. No more running around, playing tag, or monkeying around on the jungle gym. It’s like recess has gone into hiding, leaving the kids longing for some outdoor fun.

Now, here’s where it gets a little tricky for me. As an avid morning runner, I’ve been wondering, should I lace up my running shoes and hit the pavement, or should I stay indoors and protect my lungs from the smoky air?

The usual blue skies that greeted me during my early morning jogs have turned into a murky gray mess. It’s like I’m running through a scene from a dystopian movie, minus the zombies.

It’s usually bright and sunny at this time

I’m looking forward to the day when clear skies and fresh air will return to our beloved town. When I can step outside and take in deep breaths without the lingering smell of fire. When I can go for a run and feel the warmth of the sun on my face, surrounded by a blue canvas of sky.

Until then, let’s make the most of our indoor activities, embrace the cozy atmosphere, and maybe indulge in a little extra Netflix binge-watching (no judgment here).

In the midst of all this smoky mess, let’s stay safe, keep those windows closed, and hold onto the hope that normal air will return soon.

Stay smokey (too soon?)

Miri
