Today, I want to delve deeper into my post-pregnancy fitness journey and share the ups and downs I experienced as my body transformed during and after pregnancy. From unexpected sickness to physical adjustments, join me as I recount the challenges I faced and the determination that kept me moving forward.
The early weeks of my pregnancy were filled with surprises. I felt no symptoms, allowing me to maintain my regular workout routines and continue running. However, everything changed around the eighth week when I was hit hard by a condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). Nausea, heightened sensitivity to odors, and excessive saliva made each day incredibly challenging. I found myself confined to the couch, unable to move or eat properly, resulting in a loss of 5 pounds and a gradual decline in muscle tone.
As my pregnancy progressed, I battled with discomfort and physical obstacles. With a weight gain of almost 40 pounds, I found myself waddling and struggling with knee weakness. Even the simplest tasks became exhausting due to the additional weight. I spent most of my time seeking solace on the couch, finding temporary relief in certain foods. It was undoubtedly a difficult and trying period, but I reminded myself that it was all in service of bringing a beautiful life into this world.
My Pre-Pregnancy Body

A few days before my second child was born

Following the delivery, a new set of adjustments awaited me. The absence of the extra weight I had grown accustomed to felt strange, and my body needed time to recover. Walking without a limp proved challenging, and standing up straight required effort due to weakened abdominal muscles. My 8-year-old son, upon seeing me after delivery, innocently asked if I still had another baby in my stomach. It served as a poignant reminder of the physical changes I had undergone.
Driven by the desire to regain my fitness and reclaim my pre-pregnancy strength, I embarked on a journey that initially seemed overwhelming. Jogging was a painful struggle, with aching knees and an unstable pelvis. Doubts crept in, making me question my abilities. However, I refused to let discouragement define me. Through gentle jogging and focused abdominal exercises, I diligently worked to heal my deep core and gradually rebuild my strength.
Persistence became my guiding principle. I reminded myself that setbacks are temporary and that I had the power to overcome them. Gradually, the pain subsided, and my strides became more confident. Today, I’m proud to share that I’m running 5 kilometers a day and regularly attending the gym.

While my post-pregnancy journey continues to present challenges, I’m fueled by determination and a desire to defy the notion that our bodies are forever altered after having children. Although facing the “mom pooch” and the lingering effects of pregnancy can be discouraging, I remain committed to proving that we can emerge even stronger than before. With my beautiful newborn as my motivation, I’m filled with energy and optimism as I gradually regain my shape and embrace newfound strength.
